USEFUL NOTES FOR COMPUTER
I. COMPUTER SETTING AND SOFTWARE CONFIGURATION
A. Logging to CREATIVE Corporate domain (for Windows 98 and 95)
Introduction
There are many NT servers and NT domains in Creative providing shared resource. Users logon to respective Windows domain to access their server’s shared resources.
When various domains exist in isolation, sharing of resource across domains involve a tedious process of coordination, setup and lead time.
This exercise aims to consolidate CTL isolated domains into a single corporate domain to provide an integrated file & printer sharing environment on a global scale.
The first phase of this exercise is to migrate users into the Corporate domain.
The following outlines the procedures for configuring your system and yourself to logon to the Corporate domain.
Pre-migration Checklist
1. You have OS (Win9x) cab files in your local hard disk or CD is with you. This is usually stored in D:\System\Win98SE
2. Refer your corporate domain account (hereafter refer as AD account) in MIS Infobase database.
Go to Network -> Active Directory -> AD Account
3. Your existing Netware(or Novell) userID is preset to be same as the AD account ;
4. You already derived your new computer name.
It is based on your userID :
- Use your userID as the Computer name ;
- If your userID has “_”, replace it with “-“ ;
- If the resulting name is longer than 15 characters, use a name that can
reasonably represent your computer. Eg “Chris-Wong”;
- Serial applies to 2nd system onwards. It starts with “1” for your second PC
Eg, Christopher Wong’s second system is “Chris-Wong1”.
WARNING: It is recommended to change your computer name to align with the refined (friendly naming) corporate naming standard. Changing computer name has an impact if your PC has folders shared to others. Got to inform your users to re-map based on your new computer name after you migrated.
Summarizing the required parameters
My OS cab file resides in : ____________________
My AD (and Novell) userID is : ____________________
My AD default password is : _____ABCabc01______
