Migration Procedures

1. Start your system.
2. DO NOT logon to any system.
Simply click at all login screens so as to reach desktop.





Delete all “ pwl ” files in C:\Windows


3. Go to “C:\windows”, verify the existence of file(s) with “PWL” extension. Delete all PWL files.

Configure “Client for Microsoft Networks”

4. Locate the “NETWORK NEIGHBORHOOD” icon on your desktop. Right-click on it, select “PROPERTIES” and click on it.
5. Select “Client for Microsoft Networks”.
If your PC does not have “Client for Microsoft Networks”, install it and proceed to Step
6. Click the “PROPERTIES” button.
7. In the Window - “Client for Microsoft Networks Properties” :
7a. Ensure that “Log on to Windows NT domain” is checked.
7b. For “Windows NT domain” field, change it to CREATIVE
Click OK to return to “Network” Windows.

Configure “File and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks”

Note: If you do not require to use this service, delete it. Do not restart yet. Proceed to next section.

8. Select “File and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks”. If your PC does not have “File and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks”, install it and proceed to Step 9.
9. Click the “PROPERTIES” button.
10. In the Window “File and Printer sharing for Microsoft Networks Properties” :
10a. Select “Browse Master”
10b. Set its value to “Disable”

Click OK to return to “Network” Windows.




Set Microsoft logon as Primary Network Logon

11. Under “Primary Network Logon”, select “Client for Microsoft Network”.

Configure DNS host name and Computer name

Warning: This section recommends to change your DNS host name and Computer name to align with the refined (friendly naming) corporate naming standard. The DNS host name should follow the computer name.

This will have impact if your PC has folders shared to others. Your users will need to re-map using your new computer name.

12. In the “Network” windows, select “TCP/IP” (if your PC has only 1 network adapter).
Else select “TCP/IP ->???” where??? is your network adapter type.
12a. Click the “Properties” button.
12b. In the “TCP/IP properties” windows, click on the “DNS Configuration” tab.

12c. For the “Host:” field, enter your newly derived computer name (refer to pre-Migration checklist for derivation).
12d. The “Domain” field remains unchanged as before - “cesb.creaf.com”.
12e. Click “OK” to return to “Network” Windows.

13. Select the “Identification” tab.
13a. For Computer name, enter your new computer name.
13b. For Workgroup, set it to CREATIVE
13c. For Computer Description, simply enter CESB follow by your full name.

Click “OK” and allow file copying. When prompt, enter your cab file location.

14. Do not restart the computer.

Installing Windows 2000 add-ons on Win9x system

Three Windows 2000 add-ons need to be installed:
15. Go to MIS Infobase -> Network -> Active Directory -> AD Add-Ons
16. Copy DSCLIENT.EXE, WPNPINS.EXE and Q272594_For_98SE to your local HDD.
17. Run Q272594_For_98SE.EXE. DO NOT RESTART when prompted.
18. Run DSCLIENT.EXE. DO NOT RESTART when prompted.
19. Run WPNPINS.EXE. Restart when prompted.

Note: If these 2 add-ons are not installed, you cannot continue to add printer to your desktop.




Modify Windows 98 Registry

Upon startup, DO NOT LOGON to any server. Just click cancel all the way.
Go to Start -> Run -> Type Regedit -> Click OK.
Follow the navigation below and change the CallOrder accordingly.

Network Provider CallOrder [00 00 00 40] >change to> [00 00 00 20]

Network Provider CallOrder [00 00 00 20] >change to> [00 00 00 40]

23. Restart the computer.

Logon to CREATIVE domain

On restart, the first logon screen that greets you is Microsoft Logon Screen.

24a. Enter your AD userID and password.


24b. A second prompt to confirm Windows password appears.
Clear the boxes and click “OK”.
24c. Next, Novell login screen will prompt you for login. Enter your AD-userID and your Netware password and click “OK”.

Map Network Drive

Note: Due to some unresolved issues (lost mapping for subsequent logons), please use this workaround for the time being.
Go to Network Neighbourhood -> Click on CESBDS01.


26. Right click -> Map Network Drive.
27. Select Drive: G. Check Reconnect at Logon -> Click OK.


28. Repeat Steps 25 to 27. This time map the network drive, H to share name DPT_ISCT.
